Testing of Erosion-Corrosion Resistance of Carbon Steels in oil Condesate
The paper presents laboratory testing of corrosion, erosion and erosion-corrosion on two carbon steels in waterless oil condensate containing suspended quartz sand, under dynamic process of rotation of the test tube. Normalized carbon steels with boronized layer of 60-100 mm thickness have been tested. These steels had the form of cylindric shaped test bars made according to DIN 50125 and had been tested in waterless oil condensate with addition of quartz sand-distilled water containing quartz sand. Test time lasted for three days with number of revolutions being kept constant, and test bars were exposed to erosion under all particle entry angles. Research was conducted with device of our own design, and test results had been presented according to API standards. Research results were presented in the form of metal loss which occurred within the specified time period, by appliance of optic metalography and by presentation of microhardness before and after testing. The paper investigates results obtained on tempered and boronized samples. Research results proved greater resistance of boronized samples when exposed to erosion-corrosion media, compared with heat treated steels.
