Considerations on the use of Ballbar System in Accuracy Assessment of the Triaxial CNC Machine Tool

In this paper considerations CNC maintenance control with ballbar system is presented, assessment of the accuracy of CNC machine using a ballbar system. This system is based on volumetric error model and it can reveal three-dimensional error on the CNC machine tool. Ballbar tests generate trend data to help technicians implement predictive and preventive maintenance to keep machines functioning properly and part quality within specifications. A method for control of specific manufacturing cell in production system is presented. Ballbar can detect geometric errors of machine, such as backlash, squareness, scaling error, lateral play and with proper scheduling it can greatly reduce errors in production. With dynamic production systems the wear of manufacturing cells can happen before scheduled maintenance time therefore history of machine production is an important factor in maintenance.
