Benediction of a New Nave in the Klimantović's Glagolitic Miscellany from the Year 1512
Benedictions, a form of charms, ritualized speech are often present in Croatian medieval miscellanies such as Klimantović’s Glagolitic miscellany from 1512 which is not fully analyzed yet. It contains several benedictions (some written only in Klimantović’s manuscripts), such as: lamb on Easter, meat and birds, cheese and eggs, new house, all food... In this paper, the benediction of a new nave is analyzed – its particularity among others in terms of language, content and form. Emphasis is put on the linguistic rejuvenation (notation of Romanisms/vernacular), maritime component in the Slavic world and revolving and interlacing of ritual and free sermon forms.
