Electromagnetic design and analysis of the permanent magnet pilot exciter generator
This paper presents design and analysis of the pilot exciter magnet generator (PMG) based on the magnetic field computation taking the external electrical circuit coupling into account. The 2D (two-dimensional) transient finite element time stepping analysis at imposed speed is applied. The excitation of the PMG is achieved by Neodymium-Iron-Boron rare Earth magnets (NdFeB) placed on the rotor side forming consequent-pole rotor design. The PMG design procedure is emphasized taking into account all permanent magnet (PM) application aspects.
