Analytical and Numerical Solutions for Friction Calibration Curves (FCC) in Bulk Metal Forming
Friction is one significant factor in all metal forming processes. For practical reasons (calculation of forces, energy requirements, for choosing a proper lubricant in specific metal forming operations and for numerical modelling of different deformation process) it is necessary to determine magnitude of friction in metal forming processes. This can be done in experimental way by performing tests which simulate real metal forming operations. One such tests is the ring-comparison. In this test calibration between height reduction and the change of internal diameter is established, which enables determination of coefficient of friction or friction factor. In order to do this, friction calibration curves (FCC) have to be known. The objective of this work is to elaborate the problem of FCC determination. Different analytical and numerical possibilities are presented, discussed and compared.
