Paradigma folklorne glazbe u hrvatskoj etnomuzikologiji 1970-ih i 1980-ih

The article considers the creation of the so-called folkloristic paradigm of Croatian ethnomusicology, which was laid down in the mid-1970s under the influence of contextual (performative) folklore studies. The leading role in introducing the new paradigm was played by Jerko Bezić. Working at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, together with folklorists and ethnologists who defined the subjects of their disciplines (folklore and culture) by communication, he broadened the subject of ethnomusicology from the earlier tradition of rural music to all music phenomena which exist through direct communication of relatively small groups of performers and listeners. To emphasize that new subject encompasses all music that exists as folklore due to its mode of communication, he abandoned the earlier term narodna glazba (folk music) and introduced a new one - folklorna glazba (which would translate into English as folklore music). Furthermore, the results of applying this paradigm to research during the 1980s is evaluated. Similarly to what was going on in mainstream ethnomusicology, the focus of Croatian scholars' interest gradually broadened from dealing with music itself to the musical processes and the contextual research of music.
