Impact of conversion on short term outcome in laparoscopic resection for colorectal cancer.
We analysed database of 68 patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal surgery for carcinoma by one surgeon between July 2005 to November 2010.Of 68 procedures 9 patients converted to laparotomy ; 7 pts due to T4 and bulky tumors. All conversions occured after defining major vascular pedicle and urether. There were no significant differences between the converted and laparoscopy group for age, BMI and ASA. Male preponderance was observed in the conversion group. All conversions were procedure on rectum and rectosygmoideum. Postoperative morbidity was not higher after conversion, opertive times were similar, conversion group was not associated with greater blood loss.
