Flame Retardant protection
Protection of the environment and human health is now perceived as more important than a profitable and successful business. In this paper the possibility of using aluminosilicate microporous compounds (zeolites) for the treatment of cellulosic materials to impart flame retardant properties to cotton (cellulose) has been investigated. On the serial of desired properties, an aluminosilicate material zeolite FAU was synthesized observing the possibilities of isomorphous replacement of Al or/and Si atoms within the structure with a selected chemical element. Aluminosilicate microporous material was prepared by application of microwave energy. The selection and modification of the zeolite deposition procedures on cellulosic material was also carried out. Thus processed material was compared with material treated with a commercial flame retardant. The stability of the so obtained cellulose materials to washing was determined. The following methods of analysis were used for physico-chemical characterization: thermal gravimetric analysis (TG), Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, coupled TG-FTIR technique and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the sample treated with Bath I is more flame resistant and more ecologically acceptable than the sample treated with Bath II.
