INFLUENCE OF STEEL STRUCTURE ON THE SURFACE ROUGHNESS BY TURNING
Machinability is assessed by a set of criteria or machinability functions, the knowledge of which is necessary in optimizing the machining process. New materials of the cutting tools and new concepts of the machine tools provide new possibilities and cause quantitative changes in machinability functions. This work has studied the parameters of surface roughness, as one of the crucial functions of machinability. The research was done by longitudinal turning the steel 16MnCr5, which was divided in two groups of samples. First group was treated by normalization process and second by hardening and tempering process, in order to obtain two different structures. Cermet was selected as the material for the cutting insert. Coolant was not used in turning process.
