GPS Receiver Performance under Multipath Conditions
GNSS satellite signals are subject to reflection and diffraction from different surfaces like any other type of electromagnetic waves. GPS multipath is caused by the reception of signals arrived not only directly from satellites, but also reflected or diffracted from the local objects. Since the multipath signal takes a longer path than the direct signal, it results in an error in the pseudorange measurement and thus affects the positioning accuracy. The paper examines different GPS receivers' performance in urban environment with multipath signal propagation. Typical urban test locations were selected for practical tests, and several experiments were conducted to analyse positioning quality degradation during multipath signal propagation intervals for different generations of GPS receivers.
