DESIGN OF A DEEP-HOLE MICRO-MACHINING SYSTEM
The trend of miniaturization of components in modern industries like aerospace, automotive, medical, and electronic industries creates a strong demand for manufacturing techniques involving micro features such as micro holes. This paper presents the design of a machining system for deep micro holes (hole diameter of up to 1 mm, length and diameter ratio from 15 up) in order to increase the productivity and ensure the stability of the process. A machining system including vibration assistance (VA) in the longitudinal direction is developed as a method for reducing machining forces and torque, chip size, burrs, tool wear and breakage. The system can be extended with monitoring devices and various types of polishing can be combined in order to improve the roundness and final tolerance of bores.
