SpecC Profiler
SpecC methodology of system design consists of four major hierarhical levels: specification model design, architecure model design, communication model design, and implemenation model design. The SpecC Profiler is a high-level process within the SpecC system-design methodology, which analysis system design at specification-model level. To achieve fast profiling with satifactory accuracy, the SpecC Profiler relies on simulation and front-end compiler tools. Each subpart of specification-level design is asociated with profiling information, targeting computational, storage, and communication complexity of SpecC source code specification design. In addition, SpecC Profiler predicts the performance, such as number of instructions and number of processor cycles if the part of design is implemented as software, or execution time if design part is implemented as custom hardware. In this presetation, we will desrcibe the architecure of the SpecC profiler, then we will present the implementation, folled by discussion of the accuracy of both profiling results and performance prediction, and finally we will conclude with demostration of the tool running on both simple design examples as weel as complex examples such as Vocoder and JPEG.
