Numerical Analysis of Fabric Drape as Problem of Stable Postbuckling State
Fabric drape as problem of mechanics of textiles has been receiving good deal of attention, primarily in view of recent necessity for virtual simulation of clothes and other textile products. The phenomenon is analysed on a selected model problem in which it takes place after buckling, as opposed to the case of initial bending. Notion of stable postbuckling state is explained first on the example of buckling of slender bar compressed by a spring. Drape of selected specimen is then analysed on the ground of the condition of minimum total potential energy. Two possible assumed forms of buckling are compared in the sense of producing the most natural solution. In order to evaluate the buckling form parameters for best possible solution, a minimisation procedure of MATLAB software is applied. The results indicate the dependence of the number of waves in the natural drape form on material parameters and specimen geometry.
