Agricultural adjuvants - a tower of Babylon
The greatest misunderstanding among all plant protection products is in adjuvants area. Firstly it is unknown which was is the right way to classify adjuvants. According mechanism of action, adjuvants are usually classified in two groups: activator and utility ajduvants. The most important group is activator adjuvants which is divided into surfactants, oils and nitrogen fertilizers. While surfactants are divided by ionic charge of the aqueous solution on non-ionic, cationc, anionic and amphoters, the great misunderstanding is with oils. Crop oil concentrates-which are not crop or vegetables by origin-are mineral oils and got hte name due to their aim to be applied on plants. The mechanisms of aciton of many adjuvants are not really known and weed scientists often have different opinions what cause situations sometimes named Rashomon forest or tower of Babylon.
