Impact of induction motor starting on ship power network

The aim of this paper is to analyze the dynamics of the starting of induction motors connected to a synchronous generator in an autonomous operation. A complex mathematical model has been developed with the following components: a diesel engine, a synchronous generator, a mechanical connection between them, and two unregulated induction motors that are fed directly from the terminals of the synchronous generator. For the purpose of the analysis of torsional dynamics of the combined sequences of the starting of induction motors the system is represented as a system with two concentrated masses. The dynamics is analyzed during the starting of two induction motors. The first induction motor starts connected to the unloaded synchronous generator, while the second induction motor starts at different current values of the electromagnetic torque of the first induction motor. The cases with the induction motor unloaded and the induction motor loaded as well as the case of a power supply interruption to an induction motor are analyzed.
