Body Mass Index and The Level of Physical Activity of The Pupils in their Free Time
Recent research shows that physical inactivity in children presents global problem manifested in numerous health issues. Excessive body weight is one of the leading causes of many health problems. It appears in very early age, and includes all people regardless of their sex and age. The aim of this research is to establish if there exists statistically significant difference between the level of physical activity of pupils in their free time and body mass index as one of the indicators of excessive body weight. 146 elementary school pupils in grades 5 to 8 participated in the research. Pupils' anthropometric characteristics were measured, and the level of physical activities in their free time was determined by a questionnaire. The results of the research show that boys who have low levels of physical activity also show higher body mass index, and statistically significant differences are manifested in almost all measured variables. As for girls, the results do not show any statistically significant differences in measured variables as related to the level of engagement in physical activities.
