Retained Austenite and Residual Stress in Low Alloyed Austempered Ductile Cast Iron
In recent years the interest in austempered ductile iron (ADI) has increased. ADI is characterized by a high degree of toughness, strength, fatigue strength and wear resistance. Samples were prepared by austenitizing (900 C / 90 min.) and austempering at 380 C (for 0,60,120,240 and 360 min.) in a salt bath. The ground and etched samples were examined az eoom temperature usin a Philips counter diffractometer with monochromatized CoK(alpha) radiation and a graphite monochromator. The retained austenite and residual stress were determinated following the procedure of Jatezak and co-workers and Gorelik and co-workers. The obtained values showed differences between the values measured during austempering. They also indicated correlation between residual stress values and accuracy of determination pf retained austenite in ADI material.
