Family care of schizophrenics
Some results of psychiatric-epidemiologic research on representative sample of 402 hospitalized schizophrenics according to the Croatia's Psychiatric Case Register (CPCR) are presented. Among various socio-demographic, clinical and hospital characteristics which were analyzed in follow-up, family care was chosen because this variable with manifold correlative influences differentiates patients according to many other characteristics in a most significant way. Evaluation of family care was done for all schizophrenics in follow-up except for single persons. There were three modalities of scoring family care: good, moderate, bad (and "single"). On the baseline in the sample of 402 patients there were 16.9% single persons, 25.6% had a good family care, 41.3% had moderate and 16.2% had a bad family care. Statistically significant worsening in family care of schizophrenics was found after 15 years of follow-up, and category single was also significantly increased.
