Croatia's Psychiatric Case Register (CPCR) and Incidence of Schizophrenia
Since 1962 Croatia's Psychiatric Case Register (CPCR) has been run by the Chronic Disease Service, the Epidemiology Department in the Institute of Public Health of Croatia, Yugoslavia. This Register gives us a possibility for exact following-up of the incidence rate for schizophrenia. On the basis of register data it was established that in the period of 1965 to 1984 the incidence rate for schizophrenia for males varied from 0.21 to 0.23 per 1000 inhabitants per year, while for females it varied from 0.20 to 0.22. These variations are not statistically significant due to the observed period of time. In many developed Western countries, on the contrary, it was reported that the incidence rate for schizophrenia in last 10-15 years, more or less, was declining. Reasons for the constant incidence of schizophrenia in Croatia are discussed.
