Impact Between Railcars in Manoeuvring Operations

The paper discusses numerical solving of the problem of impact between railcars in manoeuvring operations. The discrete model has been applied in which the characteristics of inter-railcar couplings are non-linear functions. It is assumed that the cars have their centres of gravity on the coupler centreline. The system of non-linear differential equations has been solved using the software packet “Mathematica”. This allows, in a simple way, the study of dynamic behaviour in the impact between different set compositions. The results of two simple numerical examples are given in the form of a diagram.
