Croatian Cartographers
Every nation needs systematically elaborated and published bibliographic data about all the people who have contributed in its material and spiritual life during many centuries-old historical development. Some nations already have such manuals, while several others are just preparing their own. It is known that such work is very complex and can sometimes last for a number of decades. The paper describes the main results of the project "Croatian Cartographers" which started in 1995 at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Geodesy. The project is granted by the State Geodetic Administration of the Republic of Croatia. The expression 'Croatian cartographer' implies Croats or people coming from Croatia who have lived and worked in cartography all over the world, furthermore the members of other nations or nationalities who were born in Croatia, regardless of where they lived, as well as strangers who lived and worked on this territory giving their contribution to cartography. Special attention was given to the cartography of the Croatian coast along the Adriatic Sea. The paper gives an overwiev of the cartographers of Istria, Šibenik, Split and Dubrovnik.
