Temperature profiles for carriage of perishable shipments in air transport
The science that studies temperature, called thermodynamics (in Greek Therme – heat and Dunamis – power), interprets in principle the relation between the movement and the energy analyzing the effects of temperature, pressure and volume on a physical state. The temperature profile could be interpreted as a set of data gathered in a standardized and agreed-upon form related to the changes described as the behaviour of the subject (material, location) exposed to the changes in temperature conditions. The purpose of studies done on temperature profiles is to determine the stability of a certain product thus defining its shelf-life and the conditions related to its production, storage, distribution and consumption. Like others, airfreight industry is likely to expand its efforts in studying the temperature profiles related to airport storage facilities and aircraft, thus contributing to the global level in harmonization of the standards in transportation of PTSP - Perishable and Temperature Sensitive Products. The purpose of temperature profile analysis is not only to define the processes related to the transportation of PTSPs but also to clearly communicate the realistic performance capabilities to other stakeholders within the transportation process.
