Airport safety management system
In 2001 the International Civil Aviation Organization, as umbrella organization in the field of safety passed a manual on certification of airports in the segment of safety, regularity and efficiency of aircraft operations at airports. Consequently, in 2006 a manual on airport safety was published and it defined in detail the safety management. This document provides the national Authorities for civil aviation with the basic guidelines for the certification of every single airport on the therritory under their authority. The background of the need for airport certification in the safety segment lies in the need to regulate safety accordingto equal criteria at all airports within a member country or several countries in the region. Such regulation is especially significant in mid-developed countries and in the developing countries since it highlights the privatization processes in which, little or insuficient attention is paid to the level of safety.
