Helicobacter pylori in oral aphthous ulcers
Up today we elaborated 61 samples of aphthous ulcer. Of them only 14 (22.9%) were positive for H. pylori urease A gene. All positive samples were obtained from the patients suffering from chronic gastritis. Of 47 samples negative for H. pylori 13 were obtained from patients suffering from chronic gastritis ; 29 samples were from patients free of gastric difficulties. Based on these data we conclude that: a) the appearance of oral cavity aphthous ulcers is not necessarily connected to chronic gastritis, b) H. pylori is present in aphthous ulcers of minority of patients, c) the presence of H. pylori in aphthous ulcers is always connected with chronic gastritis.
