Increase of Compressive Strength of Masonry Walls by using Glass Fiber Straps and Fabric
This paper describes results of testing unreinforced, reinforced and strengthened masonry walls subjected to vertical compression load. All masonry wall specimens were constructed of solid masonry units (bricks) and cement-lime-sand mortar. They all had the same shape, with dimensions h/l/t=55/51/12 cm. Testing was conducted on different types of wall specimens: unreinforced, reinforced with steel wires, reinforced with GFRP wires, strengthened with horizontal and diagonal glass fiber straps and those strengthened with glass fiber fabrics. Test methods were identical for all wall specimens. Carrying capacity was tested and behavior of each specimen during the testing was recorded. Comparisons of test results were described.
