Modern cost effective joining processes of thin wall materials
The paper gives an insight into cost effective joining processes of thin wall materials that are often used in structural constructions and products. The welding technique is one of the most important joining techniques. There are more than several hundreds welding processes divided into two main groups: fusion welding processes and pressure welding processes. For joining thin wall materials, some well-known welding equipment producers have developed their own solutions for welding processes and equipment. This paper presents an overview of these modern welding proc-esses with respect to their practical application. The emphasis was put on cost efficiency as an important criterion in joining technology selection. The authors provided some practical examples of modern welding processes application in production processes (e.g. LaserHybrid welding, MAG-STT welding, CMT process, FastRoot process and plasma welding). Moreover, the authors also presented some practical data related to proper weld grove shape selection for thin and middle thin materials in structural steel production processes.
