Cultural and Natural Heritage Managment - Brioni Islands National Park
The same principles of English- style landscape park, the imitation of nature, was transformed to the Mediterranean landscape of Brioni islands and form the entire beauty. Vertical lines of pine-trees, stone pines and cedars stand outon the smooth surface of meadows, which spread out like green carpets. Groves of hollyoaks, laurel, strawberry-trees and flowering ash spread out on themild hills, or rich all the way to sandy beaches providing shadow to the sea shore. Magnolia trees, palms, olive trees and oleander, planted individually like sculptures, or in groves, give a recognizable touch to the landscape. The effects of shadow and light interchange in a manner of a rafined musical piece. Three basic colours -dark green, light blue and blue - become more intense when contrasted with the whitness of sandy beaches and of idyllic ruins of temples, pavilions, sculptures, chapels, and mausoleum. In principle every parth in the national park of Brioni leads to a surprise - antique villas, early Christian churches, and a late antique settlement. The Brioni islands represent a magical blend of natural beauty, and cultural monuments of the highest rank. It is no wonder therefore, that Brioni once more assume a representative and elite tourist role. The underwater archaeological park, real Roman otium for meditative walkers, open-air theatre performances on the archaeological sites, thematic touristic tours, can be combinated with sports, wellness and hotel resorts of the highest level. Lets try to form the space for Roman otium on Brioni islans. The Roman architecture gave as an example of the harmoniously arranged opened and closed spaces designed for relaxation, recreation and pleasure. The archaeological sites are planed to be measured and prepared (the plans and details) in 3D model as the first step in protection, preservation and revitalisation of them .
