The influence of different source positions on acoustical parameters of churches
This paper presents the analysis of the differences in acoustical parameters of churches when two different sound source positions are in use. Churches are acoustically specific spaces with two different and frequently used source positions, one at the altar and the other at the organ, which is in most cases situated at the opposite side from the altar. The churches usually have no acoustic treatment that would provide adequate support for good sound distribution from these sources. The measurements of objective parameters EDT, RT, C80, D50, TS and IACC were carried out in several churches in Zagreb and its surroundings. We have examined the changes of acoustical parameters’ values at different source and receiver positions. The churches selected for this project differ in shape, style and volume and the comparison of architectural parameters is given in order to better understand the influences of different interior design to acoustical parameters. Obtained results and analysis lead to the evaluation of acoustical quality of the selected churches and present the contribution to answering why the sound from the altar or the organ position is better appreciated by the listeners.
