Changes in watermelon leaves induced by NaCl stress: chloroplast ultrastructure, plastid pigment content and photosynthetic rate
The effects of salinity in watermelon have been previously investigated on vegetative growth, metabolic processes such as ion uptake and transport, superoxide dismutase activity. However, a few studies have been undertaken on salt-induced ultrastructural changes in cells and organelles on plants. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of increased salinity on chloroplast ultrastructure, plastid pigment content and rate of photosynthesis.
