Education and training of engineering geologist in developing countries - from Serbia and Croatia - a case study
In developing countries with small populations, such as Croatia and Serbia, there are issues related to the education and employment of engineers of geology due to many factors. Even though both countries are developing and have a tradition of educating engineers who practise engineering geology, the number of students and engineers is falling. Additionally, in both countries, there are numerous problems related to professional licenses. In this paper, the short review of history of engineering geological education in Serbia and Croatia is given to illustrate trends of development of university education at the Bachelor and Master level. It is concluded that the structure of the studies is completely different in Croatia and Serbia, even after development new study programmes aimed at unification at he European level. One of possibility to improve status of engineering geology in Serbia and Croatia is development of joint programmes and cooperation with other universities from area of Western Balkan together with universities from developed countries.
