EXPERIMENTAL TESTS OF CONFINED MASONRY WALLS
Buildings with confined masonry have performed favorably in the past earthquakes in fact much better than masonry structures. The calculation method for confined and unconfined masonry is the same. Concrete of the ties and ties itself remain as the second line of defense or additional safety that is not numerically taken into account. The objective of this study was to investigate the behavior of confined masonry walls under in-plane horizontal loads, especially different interface connections. For this purpose nine confined masonry walls were designed according to the Eurocode 6 and 8, modeled in a scale 1:1, 5 and tested under vertical and reversed cyclic horizontal loading. They represent three different interface connection types. The obtained results indicated that interlocking has influenced ductility of the monolithical behavior of observed structure while the obtained horizontal load capacity remaind the same.
