The influence of Solar activity on soil water balance and occasion of drought episodes in lowland part of Croatia
In this paper we present the correlation between the level of shallow groundwater tables in lowland Croatian forests and the solar activity as a possible factor that influence the Earth's climate. By use of spectral analysis (Fast Fourier Transform) a similar periodicity of 10.6 years was ascertained in the data series of soil water deficit based on the Thornthwaite method of calculating evapotranspiration. The similar periodicity of 10.6 years was also found in the series of Wolf-s relative number of the sunspots. According to these results we can implicitly confirm that anomalies in the series of shallow groundwater level, i.e. the occurrence of episodes of drought (1991-1993, 2000-2003), are closely related to an increase in solar activity.
