Wind energy potential in the Adriatic coastal area, Croatia - field study
In accordance with the current research trends worldwide dealing with renewable energy sources this paper evaluates the possibility of utilizing wind energy potential in the Adriatic coastal region of the Republic of Croatia. Study is based on the wind data measured at the Bobani location (43°36', 16°27') for one year period 20th December 2007 – 18th December 2008). In order to get the climatologically representative wind speed and direction distributions, we extrapolated the available data using 30-years long wind speed and direction data set measured at the nearest meteorological station at Split Marjan (43°31', 16°26'). The analysis resulted with data relevant for the evaluation of wind energy production at location. The average annual energy production calculated for the Enercon E-82 2 MW wind turbine as an example shows that wind on the Croatian coastal region could be significant factor in energy production.
