Testamentary Bequests of Urban Noblewomen on the Eastern Adriatic Coast in the Fourteenth Century: The Case of Zadar
The article deals with the testaments of the Zaratin noble women in the fourteenth century. It gives a general picture of distribution of their property for pious purposes. It examines main types of institutional recipients of pious legacies: ecclesiastical institutions – monasteries and churches and lay institutions – hospitals, confraternities, as well as various individuals as recipients of pious donations such as members of clergy, confessors, servants, the poor and so on. Article also deals with the types of pious legacies such as money, land, garments, food and natural produces, liturgical objects, paintings and so on.
