NATURAL ZEOLITE TREATED COTTON FOR PPE – THE INFULENCE ON FABRIC HAND

European Directive (89/656/EEC) declares the minimum safety and health requirements for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used at the work place by the employees. Between the obligations of the employer is clearly stated that only PPE shall be used, which comply with the European regulations on concept and construction of PPE. These PPE shall be fit for the risk encountered, without itself introducing a new risk ; be compatible with the existing workplace conditions ; meet the ergonomic requirements and the safety and health requirements ; be adaptable to the individual needs of the wearer. Activated natural zeolite applied on cotton fabric was proven as good protective material from UV radiation, microbes as bacteria and fungi, heat and fire, and lately from liquid radioactive contamination. However, the high concentrations of activated zeolite also effects on other fabric properties. According to the directive above, it was of a great interest to research its ergonomic requirements as well. Therefore, the influence of zeolite concentration on fabric hand was determined by subjective and objective evaluation methods.
