Geodetic Works in Demining Procedure
The Republic of Croatia, as any other country in the world that has been faced with the war consequences is burdened with one of the most difficult consequences – mine contamination. Therefore the most sophisticated Mine Information System (MIS) has been established in the Croatian Mine Action Centre (CROMAC). Mine Information System of the Croatian Mine Action Centre applied in the system of anti-mine activity in the Republic of Croatia. Geodetic measurements of searched and demined areas is one of the actions that has to be done in order to collect the data and adjust them for usage in Mine Information System. The method to be used to perform geodetic measurements of the demined area depends mostly on the location of the demined polygon, as well as on the terrain configuration. The areas suspicious with regard to the presence of mines are located in inaccessible areas, as e.g.: at the top of mountain ranges and the areas covered with dense forests. Such areas can also be found on agricultural fields, as well as in inhabited places. However, it is hardly probable that the fundamental network of geodetic control points at such places has not been destroyed since the area was mined. Geodetic survey of demined area does not imply previous terrain reconnaissance, but the part of planning is made in the office in digital ortho photo, and the selection of point stabilization place of the geodetic base is done at the moment of making geodetic works. the paper describes the geodetic works in the procedure of demining one polygon at the territory of the Republic of Croatia. Two methods have been used for the purpose of determining the coordinates of the geodetic base points: relative static method of GPS and polygonometry. The coordinates of form lines of the demined polygon are determined by means of tacheometry. The processing of GPS measurement data processing has been done with the software Trimble Geomatics Office (TGO), version 1.63. The coordinates of polygon points and of break point coordinates have been computed using the software GeoMIR4. The areas of the demined polygon have been computed using analytical method, out of the coordinates of break points. For the purpose of maintaining the Mine Information System the demined polygon is presented on the maps of the scale 1:5000 and 1:25 000.
