Energy Saving in Modern Gearboxes using HCR Gears
Engineers must assist in slowing the depletion of natural resources, especially fossil fuels. Therefore it is important to research any possible contribution to power efficiency and energy saving in modern machines and devices. Thus, the use of nonstandard gears has increased recently in modern gearboxes. High transverse contact ratio (HCR) gears, as nonstandard involute gears, are becoming predominate in modern gearboxes. In this paper, HCR gears and their advantages in relation to standard involute gears are presented, such as greater load capacity, smoother torque transfer, extended gear life, as well as smaller and lighter design.
