Evaluation of Tightly Woven Fabric Coverage Factor
High coverage factors of tightly woven fabrics is quite difficult to quantify, and therefore it is necessary to precise an objective method for its evaluation. The object of this paper is to discuss the results calculated according to the ideal geometrical model of textiles with those based on fabric digital images analysis according to the two proposed algorithms applied to perform an automatic method for objective evaluation. Digital microscopic images of the two different sets of fabric samples, obtained in transmitted light, are made with the magnification level of 12.5x and 40x and the same rectangular frame. Thresholdings are fixed according to the algorithm 1 and according to the algorithm 2 made for each image separately. Regression analysis of the coverage factors obtained by different methods show a very good correlation. Coverage factor evaluation from microscopic images made with the magnification level of 12.5x and constant threshold offers easier and faster investigation by simultaneously analysis of larger testing area and detection of irregular and uneven pores.
