Evidence of racial susceptibility for multiple sclerosis in the population of Gorski Kotar, Croatia
Evidence relating to the etiology of multiple sclerosis (MS) favor an interplay between genetic susceptibility and enviromental factors. In several parts of the world , the prevalence of MS gas been shown to differ between gepgraphically integrated but ethnically distinct populations.Between the population of Gorski Kotar and the Caucasian sample there was a statistically significant difference for B5, B8, B12 and B14 antigens, but not for DR2, as expected. We conclude that the population of Gorski Kotar, an area of a very high risk for MS, consisting of different ethnic group, is specific only for this area.Is is clearly presented that, according to the results, the populations of Gorski Kotar do not carry the expected high HLA DR2 incidence.
