Chronic pain coping strategies in patients with combat PTSD
People use different strategies in coping with pain, depending on their perception of pain sensations, specific sharacteristics od disease, psychological states, personality traits, attitudes, sociodemografic attributes and sociocultural environment. These variables are correlated in the attempt to control, manage and tolerate pain. Special interest in the study was to identify the coping strategies in patients with diagnosed combat PTSD. 70 participants were recruited from two Psychiatric Clinics in Zagreb. The patients had psychiatric diagnosis of combat PTSD and cronic pain problems. The quality and intensity of pain were measured with SF-MPQ, coping strategies were assesed with CSQ. The results show different correlations between chronic pain, coping startegies and PTSD. A number of reference studies have shown that a combination of various factors contributes to increased pain sensations. Hence, the study of coping strategies is important in defining ptoper therapy of chronic pain in PTSD patients.
