Gender differences in eating habits and physical activity according to weight reduction behaviour among Croatian adolescents
Aim: To investigate gender differences in eating habits and physical activity to weight reduction behaviour. Methods: Croatian data from Health behaviour in school aged children 2006 were used, chi-square test was performed. Results: Among pupils engaged in weight reduction behaviour were no gender differences in moderate physical activity, eating breakfast or fruit, vegetable and sweets consumption ; gender differences were observed only at the age of 15 in vigorous physical activity (girls are less physically active) and in soft drinks consumption at the age of 13 (boys drink more soft drinks). Generally, among those not trying to loose weight, girls were more prone to healthy eating behaviour and were less physically active. Discussion: Among pupils not engaged in weight reduction behaviour significant gender differences in eating habits and physical activity were observed. However, while trying to lose weight, boys and girls employed rather similar unhealthy eating and physical activity habits.
