Poetics of Theatrical Space Where Bachelard Meets Gavella
Dealing with phenomenology of intimate spaces, Bachelard (1957 ; 1994) previously had to institute the notion of artwork’s (in his words: image’s) ontology which lies at the very moment of its reception, its physical echo it produces. Beyond possible theories of reception, this statement aims much higher. It seeks to establish the origin of artistic phenomenon, or image, devised through logos, thus being essentially ontology of expression. A few decades earlier, Croatian director and theatrologist, Branko Gavella postulated a new theory of acting, based on the similar phenomenological model, i.e. ontology whose basic principle is image. Co- production of images (or Mitspiel) stands for genealogical artistic procedure only within which an original artwork can emerge. Meeting points, as well as divergences in these authors’ approaches are to be presented, with particular stress on the issue of (artistic) space.
