Transvaginalna ultrazvučna aspiracija blizanaca u kobile - prikaz iz prakse

Twin pregnancy is a serious problem in equine practice, because twinning usually causes abortion, stillbirth, perinatal death or the delivery of weak and deformed foals. Early trans-rectal ultrasonographic diagnosis allows for prompt treatment of twin pregnancies. The earlier the diagnosis is made, the be er are the results from the treatment which may be given. Endometrial cups are formed a er Day 36 and remain functional until approximately Day 90 to 130 of gestation and mares whose pregnancies are lost will frequently not cycle for all that time. Therefore, the management of equine twin pregnancy a er the establishment of endometrial cups is questionable. In this case study the effi ciency of trans-vaginal ultrasound-guided aspiration (TUGA) is described in a 14-year old Trakener mare, which was perGETZ IVA, NIKICA PRVANOVIĆ, T. DOBRANIĆ, T. For the reduction of twin, lying in the right horn nearby uterine bifurcation, we used an OPU system (Pie Medical, the Netherlands) consisting of an ultrasound scanner with a sector 5/7.5 MHz transducer a ached to an aspiration pump and ovum pick-up needle (Terumo 18G) guidance system. For the sedation of the mare we used 0.25 ml/100kg Domosedan® I.V. Before and a er the procedure the mare was treated with 1.1 mg/kg fl unixin meglumin I.V. (Finadyine® Solution, Schering-Plough, Essex AH, Germany) and 8.000.000 I.U. Penicillin and 5 g Dihydrostreptomycin sulphate I.M. for 5 consecutive days. On the 3rd day a er TUGA the mare was re-examined and no heart activity was detected in reduced twin, while the other twin showed normal heart action. The ongoing pregnancy was completed in term with the delivery of live foal. The results of this case study show that TUGA is a safe procedure that can be considered as an important tool for twin reduction between Day 30 and 50 of pregnancy, especially for bilateral twins and in most cases allows development of the remaining foetus to the term.
