Molecular junctions: conductance and internal molecular structure
We compared molecular junctions of some classes of organic molecules chemisorbed through thiol bonds to the Au(111) surfaces of the electrodes. In Tour wires and OPVn molecules, the conductance showed a decrease proportional to the number of benzene rings in the molecule. We demonstrated that the conductance in polyynes is stable with respect to the applied bias voltage and the length of the molecule, while in Tour wires and OPVn it exhibits the nonlinear behaviour as a consequence of different electronic structure around the Fermi level of the system.
