Inflammatory, anti-inflammatory, proangiogenic and apoptotic factors in diabetic patients
Cytokine microenvironment in humor aqueous may have a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic cataract. In the present study we measured the level of VEGF and MCP-1 in serum and aqueous humor in two groups – in patients with cataract and type II diabetes mellitus and in patients with senile cataract by ELISA. The concentration of VEGF was significantly higher in both serum and humor aqueous of diabetic patients compared to patient with senile cataract. We concluded that VEGF may play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic cataract.
