Matafikcija i problem oblikovanja osobne povijesti
One of the characteristics of postmodern literature is deletion of traditional boundaries between genres and a quest for new forms through which one could meaningfully speak about the world. A form of discourse which includes autobiography, memoirs, novel within novel, commentary etc. has been constructed by the Hungarian writer Péter Nádas in his work „Emlékiratok könyve“ („A Book of Memories“), which, together with „Bevezetés a szépirodalomba“ („An Introduction to Literature“) by Péter Esterházy, both from 1986, is viewed as a seminal text in the Hungarian literary „reversal of the eighties“. Having Nádas's novel in view, in this paper we discuss questions of (postmodern) narrator, intertextuality, autoreference, fragment, body etc. Finnaly, we conclude by defining this novel as a metafiction through which a personal history is constructed, while the possibility of its representation is deconstructed at the same time.
