Growth through Innovation: Energy and New Technologies (A View from the Croatian Perspective)
Challenges of Energy Sectors in the 21st Century are: Environmental consciousness connected to the climate changes ; classical requirements like energy security, energy supply, energy efficiency and the most recent challenge, which is connected to the global financial crises. Kyoto Protocol obligations and other international environmental obligations rose as the recent limits to the energy sectors development as well. Changes in energy sectors in the countries in central and south-east Europe are: environmental consciousness due to the global warming threats, which includes need for pollution limitation and CCS. The permanent change in European energy sectors is efficiency of energy production increasing, and Technology development in energy production from renewable sources as well. A Croatia and SE European country has to ensure energy supply and cooperate in the international initiatives, such as: The Energy Community of the SE Europe and the joint energy projects. International energy projects are the background for international collaborations.
