Law Terms in Saga and Translation
Law terms peculiar for the medieval Icelandic society are often difficult to translate into modern idiom the difficulties being of a cultural as well as linguistic nature. The problems range from lack of a modern term for a medieval concept to inadequate meaning of a cognate term. Terminology as it appears in some of the sagas is examined in comparison with its translation into modern Swedish, English and Croatian.
