Modelling deposition of particulate organic waste underneath aquaculture facilities: validation of KK3D model
In the early July 2006 we concluded a sediment trap validation study of KK3D deposition model at sea bass and sea bream fish farm near Pakoštane, Croatia. Sediment traps were deployed below the centre of the net pen and at distances of 8m, 12m, 20m, 40m. Two trap designs were used: short (diameter:8cm, height: 20cm) and long (diameter:8cm, height: 50cm). Long sediment traps were in accordance with recommendation that the ratio between height and diameter should be 5:1. Short traps were used to quantify the resuspension. Approximately, 30% less faecal material was collected by short sediment traps in comparison to long sediment traps. Measurements were used to validate the performance of KK3D model. Overall accuracy, determinated by combining all data, is +-50.21% which is in accordance with previously published results (Corner et al. 2006).
