Post Cold War enlargement of NATO materialized by its three rounds and by accepting twelve new member states presents the biggest geopolitical and geostrategic change in Europe after the fall of communism. The first two post Cold War decades were determined by comprehensive transformation of NATO resulting with enlargement, acting out of area, conducting new missions and operations, creating new partnerships as well as developing new capabilities to respond to emerging security challenges, the role with which it is expected to continue in the future
